Why Courtship is Fundamentally Flawed

Lonely Woman on a Bench - Why Courtship is Fundamentally FlawedI find it amusing whenever a person starts talking about the “Right” or “Biblical” way to find a mate.  If you look through the pages of the Bible, several methods of getting a mate might get you in trouble these days.  I would not suggest that you work for her father for seven years, and then an additional seven you when you found out that you actually married her sister.  I also feel like purchasing a piece of property so that you get the rights to marriage (like Ruth and Boaz) is a little out-dated.  (Here is a complete list of Biblical Methods.)

I was in college when the best-selling novel I Kissed Dating Goodbye  was published.  This book popularized the concept of courtship, and in my perspective established within the Christian world a supposedly “more godly” method of finding a mate.

Here is an article  by Thomas Umstattd that discusses the difficulties of courtship from someone who supported the movement.

2014 July4Dr. G. David Boyd is the Founder and Managing Director of EA Resources.  He dated a lovely woman named Rachel Beecher who on August 18, 2001 said yes to marriage.  Since that day, they have seen God’s faithfulness together through the good and bad times of life.
